A Hotel Lobby Art Gallery

Welcome back to La Recepción! Glad to have you and I hope you enjoy today’s scroll.

Snowbird season is upon us and it beckons La Recepción south to soak up the sun. If you are itching to get out of the cold these hotel lobbies offer flexible workspaces in the morning and leisurely afternoons by the pool.

Today, we fly south to Florida’s snowbird capital, Sarasota, and check in to the Art Ovation.

The Art Ovation hotel lobby is a wide body “L” shaped lobby, with multiple small “island” sitting areas, and a central lobby bar. The lobby is modeled after an art gallery, with lots of open space and a curated selection of art lining the walls from rotating artists.

It’s an ideal spot to check emails or get after-work drinks but isn’t designed for long working sessions. Honestly, it’s a good thing because you can spend more time at the rooftop pool, sipping on a Landshark and working on your tan.

The Art Ovation Hotel Lobby

Business

Lobby layout: is an off-white wide body "L" shaped lobby with art accenting the lobby walls. Muitlpe small seating areas run through the center of the lobby, ending at the lobby bar.

The crowd: quiet hotel guests during the day but at night becomes loud as the lobby fills with patrons drinking at the bar or attending events hosted in the lobby.

Great for: checking emails or post-work happy hours.

Coffee: no, but two blocks away is my favorite coffee shop O&A.

Music: yes, is a collection of different generes but indie rock stood out.

Wifi: free public wifi.

Charging access: decent, there are 4 outlets at the bar and a few outlets on the pillars in the cocktail pits.

Bathrooms: yes, in the center of the lobby before the bar.

Leave your stuff alone to go to the bathroom? yes.

Callouts: the lobby has an echo, seating isn't great for extended working sessions and they play dramatic readings of plays on the speakers in lobby bathrooms (it's very surprising).

Pleasure

La Piscina: head up to the rooftop to take a dip in the lovely rooftop pool. The pool bar opens at 11A and is serving drinks until the late evening.

Lobby Bar or Restaurant: lobby bar (opens at 5P EST).

Menu: beer, wine, cocktails, and food.

Happy Hour: 3P-5P est by the pool, none for the lobby bar (🥲).

Thirsty? they have a solid Comso and Gin Martini.

Hungry? I wouldn't recommend the bar food.
