A Garden of Relaxation

Welcome back to La Recepción! Glad to have you here.

In this newsletter, we explore a variety of hotel lobbies ranging from the luxurious Miami Beach Edition to the humble Marriot Courtyard, through the lens of business and pleasure.

Next up in rotation is the lobby of one of the newest hotels on Manhattan’s west side - the Pendry Manhattan West.

Hidden in the ever-developing Hudson Yards, the Pendry hotel lobby is a garden of relaxation, brimming with lush greenery and warm wooden tones. The lobby is filled with natural light, deep couches, and sunken chairs that give your brain a warm mental hug.

The Pendry lobby is an ideal spot for a coffee break, answering emails, or killing time before cocktail hour, which kicks off at 4 PM EST at the lobby bar. I highly recommend browsing their selection of coffee table books, my personal favorite being Surf Shacks by Matt Titone.

Business

Lobby layout: petite "U" shaped lobby, filled with natural light, deep couches, and low sunken chairs.

The crowd: quiet hotel guests who are in limbo between activities.

Great for: mental recharge, coffee breaks, and checking emails.

Coffee: Black Fox Coffee shop attached to the lobby.

Music: ambient Jazz.

Wifi: free public wifi that isn't gated (Pendry public).

Charging access: poor. There are a few covered outlets in the floor that could be popped open in a pinch but in general very little outlet access.

Bathrooms: located across from the hotel lobby bar.

Leave your stuff alone to go to the bathroom? You can ask the hotel staff to watch your stuff but honestly given the lobby setup this is a non issue.

Callouts: The lobby is small and not designed for posting up.
