Snowbird season is upon us and it beckons La Recepción south to soak up the sun. If you are itching to get out of the cold these hotel lobbies offer flexible workspaces in the morning and leisurely afternoons by the pool.

Today we are on Florida’s Gulf Coast posting up at The Tampa EDITION, Florida.

From the mind of Ian Schrager (co-founder of New York’s iconic Studio 54) EDITION hotels and their lobbies are the pinnacle of business and pleasure.

When you walk into the Tampa EDITION your nose is greeted by the EDITION’s signature scent, “a blended version of black tea and bergamot that invokes a sense of comfort and exoticism” by Le Labo.

Tropical vegetation, white marble, and yellow accents fill the lobby giving it a bright, chic, and upbeat vibe. Long “L” couches, white throw pillows, and lots of white fur blankets span the lobby inviting you to lounge in luxury.

A large community picnic table, small round white marble tables, a coffee bar, and an outdoor patio, make for a perfect work environment at the Market at the EDITION.

When you are ready for a break, head up to the Pool Bar for a glass of crisp Rosé and soak in the reggae island vibes curated by DJ Gravy. Or if you are having a bad day, you can swim in a Magnum of Dom Perigon for a cool $2000.

Lobby layout: massive "L" shaped lobby with tall ceilings, tropical vegetation, white marble, and yellow accents.

The crowd: a mix of hotel guests lounging around the lobby and folks working at the market.

Great for: mental breaks, posting up, focus work, or irl meetings.

Coffee: yes, available at the Market. Try the Tampa Bay Fog (💎).

Music: yes, updated every two weeks it’s a mix of oldies, modern beats, tropical vibes, funky jazz, reggae, island 🏝️ beats, and solo slide guitar. Curated by DJ Gravy.

Wifi: free EDITION public wifi.

Charging access: poor, if you are looking for a charge snag a seat along the wall by a lamp and follow the wires to the outlet.

Bathrooms: yes, back and to the left when you walk into the lobby.

Leave your stuff alone to go to the bathroom? yes.

Callouts: outlet situation is poor.

Pleasure 

La Piscina: head up to floor 9 for the sundeck, pool bar, and delicious coastal greek food at Azure.

Thirsty? grab a rosé or a cold beer on the sundeck (Azure bevs).

Hungry? get the dips, hummus, summer tzatziki, and greek feta (Azure eats).

Lobby Bar or Restaurant: both, Market at EDITION (lobby restaurant) & Lobby Bar.

Menu: Market at EDITION (food, beer, wine, cocktails, open all day) & Lobby Bar (beer, wine, cocktails opens at 4P EST).
